Joseph Fred “Pastor Joe” Johnson is the Senior Pastor of Mount Hebron Church Ministries located in Mobile, Alabama. He is the second of four children born to James and Gohn Johnson on November 3, 1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Pastor Joe grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended school in the public school system.  After completing High School, he enrolled at Xavier University in New Orleans for two years.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1974 and was later deployed to England, to serve in Operation Desert Storm. During his tour of duty, Pastor Joe was responsible for setting up M.A.S.H. units. He retired in January of 1994 after 20 years of service with a rank of Master Sergeant.

Pastor Joe and his wife Linda of 30 years, together with their three children moved back to Mobile, Alabama in January 1994, where he began teaching in the Mobile County Public School System.

In August of 1993, Pastor Joe accepted his calling and in 1996 became the Pastor of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church; the church had been in existence since 1944.

Under his leadership, over forty new ministries were added to meet the needs of the growing congregation.  Membership grew from 200 to 1,150 by December 2001.  To accommodate the rapid increase, two additional worship services were implemented.

Pastor Joe has led the church in purchasing two old car dealerships that will soon become the site of the new Sanctuary.  At the present time, the church owns twenty-five acres of land, twelve acres of which is interstate property.  Membership is presently over 5,000 and steadily increasing.

Under his leadership and guidance, the church now has its own Family Life Center, Christian Child Care Development Center, Youth Center and Café.
